The ship passed the first blockade during the night, but today Greenpeace managed to stop it at the Rhine port in Weil near Basel. Around a dozen activists chained themselves to the ship.

More ships with genetically modified soy are expected the coming days. The association of small and medium sized farmers, the Foundation for Consumer Protection and Greenpeace will file a complaint against the import of these GE soybeans and require that all shipments of genetically manipulated corn and soy products are confiscated by the authorities.

Seit dem Morgengrauen verhindern AktivistInnen der Umweltorganisation Greenpeace mit Schlauchbooten die Weiterfahrt des Frachtschiffes MS "Desirée". Nachdem das Schiff bei Nacht und Nebel eine erste Greenpeace-Sperre passieren konnte, wurde es heute im Rheinhafen in Weil vor Basel an Ketten gelegt. Rund ein Dutzend AktivistInnen haben sich auf dem Schiff angekettet. In den kommenden Tagen werden weitere Schiffe mit genmanipulierter Soja in Basel erwartet. Der Verband kleiner und mittlerer Bauern, die Stiftung für Konsumentenschutz und Greenpeace erstatten Anzeige gegen die Einfuhr dieser Soja und verlangen, dass sämtliche Schiffsladungen mit gentechnisch manipulierten Mais- und Sojaprodukten von den Behörden konfisziert werden.
