Barge in Oil Rig Disaster Area
A barge pumps sand to build a berm on the north end of the Chandeleur Islands in the Gulf of Mexico. The controversial project will take up to five months to be accomplished and is expected to help protect 2,000 to 3,000 miles of shoreline from the BP oil spill originated on the Deepwater Horizon well disaster.

Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico
The BP (British Petroleum) leased oil platform Deepwater Horizon exploded on April 20 and sank after burning, leaking an estimate of more than 210,000 gallons of crude oil per day from the broken pipeline to the sea. Eleven workers died during the disaster.
