The remote island harbors several animal species among which Arctic foxes and seals and is an important breeding ground for migrational seabirds like northern fulmars, guillemots and little auks. Despite its name, Bear Island hasn’t seen a single polar bear since March 2013. The enormous animals use ice floes to travel and thereby cover huge distances.
