Bunny McDiarmid Visits the Tapajós River to Stand with the Munduruku Indigenous People
Greenpeace International Executive Director Bunny McDiarmid visits the Tapajós River basin in the Amazon Rainforest to stand with the Munduruku Indigenous People as they fight a massive hydropower project.
The Munduruku people have inhabited the Sawré Muybu Indigenous territory in the heart of the Amazon, for generations. The Brazilian government plans to build a series of dams in the Tapajós River basin, which would severely threaten their way of life. The Munduruku demand the demarcation of their territory which would ensure protection from such projects. In addition to preserving their way of life, the demarcation of Sawré Muybu ensures the conservation of 178,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest.
