Only a few trees are standing, blackened by fire, in the area where there used to be a forest, on the banks of the Trans - Amazon highway in Manicoré, south of the state of Amazonas (AM). The site, an area embargoed by Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), was prepared to receive grass seed for grazing. 

Poucas árvores resistem em pé, enegrecidas pelo fogo, na área onde antes havia uma floresta, às margens da rodovia Transamazônica, em Manicoré, sul do Amazonas. O local, uma área embargada pelo IBAMA, era preparado para receber sementes de grama para pastagem.
