Climate Change Impact Austria - Flood protection
Due to climate change, weather extremes are getting more common in Austria. Weather events like heavy rainfalls, hail and heavy storms can be seen more frequently. Especially in the areas around the Danube river, large areas are in danger of floods, that are causing massive housing damage and even deaths. The government is investing heavily in flood protection. In the state, Niederösterreich 500 projects have been implemented since 2002. Spitz near the town Krems was one of them.
