Contaminated Landscape in Namie
Radiation dose rate: Between 3.5 and 9 microsievert an hour / 44 to 112 times above normal. The normal rate before the Fukushima nuclear disaster was 0.08 microsieverts an hour.
A lone tree heralds the arrival of autumn, near the 399 provincial road in Namie. Radiation levels in this area are far too high for residents to remain, and almost all have been evacuated to safer places such as Fukushima City and Nihonmatsu.
