Eastern Chipmunk in Canadian Boreal Forest
Eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus).
These mammals can be found in eastern and central North America, from the boreal forest to the southern United States. Although they are expert tree climbers, they dig underground nests. The name chipmunk is derived from the Anishinaabe word ajidamoo which translates as "one who descends trees headlong."
