Forests Indonesia Tour
A cargo of flitches, (squared logs) waits to be loaded on to the Vietnamese vessel Ha Tinh 06, on the Kumai River, adjacent to the Tanjung Puting National Park. Greenpeace has evidence that Ha Tinh 06 attempted to illegally load flitches, in contravention of Ministerial Decree. The Ha Tinh 06 has been under suspicion of preparing to load an illegal cargo since February the 14th but is now sitting idle again in Kumai Bay. The Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior has been patrolling the mouth of the Kumai River, documenting the illegal timber trade. This presence has resulted in an effective blockade, preventing the Ha Tinh 06 loading. The Pangkalan Bun and Kumai area is notorious for the extent of illegal logging, operated with power and violence by the timber mafia.
