Great Bear Rainforest Blockade in Canada
Greenpeace activists block a logging road on King Island to help protect Nuxalk Nation land. The RCMP arrested 24 activists, including Nuxalk Nation members and Greenpeace volunteers. By October 1998, Interfor successfully cut down the majority of trees in Itsa, the sacred land of the Nuxalk Nation.
