Greenpeace staff member Mikhail Kreindlin who had suffered a broken nose and a concussion during a raid carried out by 8 armed men. On the night of the 8th of September, the Greenpeace Russia firefighting team were attacked in their camp in the South of Russia. The attackers had sliced through tents, damaged vehicles, threw a stun grenade in one of the cars, and stole valuable equipment.

The Greenpeace Russia team had arrived in the Krasnodar region on the 5th of September to help local authorities and environmental activists to fight against wildfires, as the authorities failed to prevent or limit the wildfires in the area. The purpose of the Greenpeace Russia expedition was the prevention of illegal open burning in valuable wetlands and coastal salt lakes, which suffer from fires every year.
