Levi's 'Detox' Action in Madrid
Activists dressed as waiters distribute 'water' bottles to Levi's customers outside a store in central Madrid. The '501' bottles contain denim pieces not water, symbolizing how scarce water supplies are further diminished by Levi’s polluting practices. Greenpeace is calling on Levi's to engage fully in the process of ending the use and release of hazardous chemicals in connection with the production of their clothing.

Levi's 'Detox' Action in Madrid
Activists dressed as waiters share '501' water bottles filled with denim. The activists are taking part in a series of Greenpeace activities held in over 80 cities worldwide, demanding that Levi’s commits to eliminating the use of all hazardous chemicals throughout its supply chain. Greenpeace’s investigatory report, “Toxic Threads: Under Wraps”, exposes dumping of industrial wastewater containing toxic and hazardous chemicals from two of Mexico’s biggest textile manufacturing facilities with links to brands including Levi’s. Little transparency and weak laws allow these facilities to avoid scrutiny of their manufacturing processes. Greenpeace demands fashion brands commit to zero discharge of all hazardous chemicals by 2020, and require their suppliers to disclose all releases of toxic chemicals from their facilities to communities at the site of water pollution.
