Quit Coal Tour in Thailand
The Quit Coal Tour in Thailand is part of Greenpeace's global campaign against coal. Coal is the most polluting of all fossil fuels and the largest single source of CO2 in the world. Currently, one-third of all carbon dioxide emissions come from burning coal. Greenpeace is calling on the Thai government to quit coal and increase energy efficiency. The government must adopt legislation that provides investors in renewable energy with stable and predictable returns and guarantees priority access to the grid for renewable generators. The impacts of sea-level rise due to climate change are predicted to hit hard on coastal countries in Asia. Greenpeace is also calling on G8 countries for decisive action against climate change, pointing out that developing countries like Thailand face dire consequences of inaction by the world’s richest countries.
