Moose (Alces alces) in Canada
These herbivores are among the largest land mammals found in North America. Unlike other members of the deer family who congregate in herds, these animals are generally solitary creatures. Calves do stay with their mothers, however, until the following breeding season. Once the ice has melted they are often seen in the water. They can swim long distances and dive underwater for over 30 seconds.
