A coalition of grassroots and environmental groups staged a protest outside Canada's environment ministers’ meeting, held at the Marriott hotel in Montreal.

The coalition called the ministers who were gathered to negotiate climate policy not to ignore the “elephant in the room”: the ever-growing threat of fossil fuel projects, including the Energy East and the TransMountain tar sands pipelines.
