Protest at Ministry for Agriculture in Berlin
Greenpeace activists protest in front of the Ministry for Agriculture with a statue of a 'poor pig'. The activists demand that the Minister of Agriculture Christian Schmidt develops a more effective political strategy for higher standards in livestock farming.
59 million pigs are slaughtered annually in Germany, of which 12 million aren't consumed here. 90 percent of the animals are held in tiny stalls without straw or fresh air to keep the production costs at a minimum.
The statue is removed.
