Resident of Parasavbata Village, Korba District in Chhattisgarh
55 year old Parain Bai lives next to BALCO plant, Parasavbata village, Korba district, Chhattisgarh. BALCO is polluting the water and air in the region, residents of Parasavbata village are suffering from skin infection and breathing problems. According to her, BALCO is not doing anything to help the residents' health. Villagers suffer from fly ash in summer months, their houses are covered with ash and villagers have breathing and skin infections. Unfortunately residents are not aware of the health hazards of SO2 & NO2 emission from the TPP. Their only concern is what is visible in summer months, which is fly ash and it is poisoning the air, water and land in areas close to the power plants.

Clean Air Nation: Effects of Thermal Power Plants on Local Communities in Chhattisghar
In 2016, severe air pollution has disrupted everyday life in India, especially during the winter season. In 2015, air pollution (PM2.5) levels increased in a rapid manner surpassing even China’s extremes. The states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra especially, have seen pollution increase drastically. However, the country is yet to come to the full understanding that air pollution is a national problem and to win the fight against it, we need to act as a country and across city or even regional boundaries.
These images have been shot around Thermal Power Stations in the state of Chhattisghar, in central India.
