The Dannenröder Forest ("Danni") is an intact mixed forest with some trees up to 200 years old. For the further expansion of the controversial A49 motorway, tens of thousands of hectares will have to be cleared for an aisle leading through the forest. Greenpeace has carried out several actions on the spot against further deforestation of this and forests in general calling on the government for a forward-looking and climate-friendly transport planning.
