Delivery of Petition for Synthetic Nitrogen Fertiliser Phase out in NZ
Greenpeace campaigner Steve Abel speaks at petition delivery.
Greenpeace Aotearoa (NZ) delivers a petition signed by 33,000 people to Parliament, calling on the New Zealand Government to phase out synthetic nitrogen fertiliser.
The petition was accompanied by a huge banner with the names of 30,000 people that had signed it. Greenpeace Aotearoa previously used the banner in an action at the Fertiliser Association of New Zealand.
Synthetic nitrogen fertiliser is an agricultural input driving industrial dairying, New Zealand's biggest climate polluter. Synthetic nitrogen fertiliser also causes nitrate pollution in rivers, lakes and drinking water.
New Zealand's Minister for the Environment, David Parker, accepted the petition.
