Soy Warehouse Blockade in Saint-Nazaire Harbour, France
10 Greenpeace France activists block a soy warehouse in the harbour of Saint-Nazaire, France's leading soy importation port.
The objective: to denounce Government's inaction on the subject of imported deforestation. Activists chained themselves to the gates of a warehouse where are stored tons of imported soy every month. They also blocked the conveyor belt. Other activists unfolded a banners denouncing “Deforestation: Highly Flammable Soy”, or “Warehouses Full of Soy / Empty Policies”.
A National Strategy against Imported Deforestation (SNDI) was adopted in 2018 by the French Government. More than two years after its adoption, its implementation is a failure. French Government refuses to take legally binding measures and chooses to bet on companies goodwill.
Greenpeace France calls on French Government to urgently take binding measures to implement its commitments and to ensure that imported soy is not connected to deforestation. Greenpeace also calls on France to definitively reject the free trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries.
