Environmental Disaster in Kamchatka
White foam in the Vilyuchinskaya bay, in the area of the ecological catastrophe in the Kamchatka Peninsula, North-East of Russia.
The source is still unclear. Hundreds of sea animals washed ashore, and the water changed color.
The poisonous substances of unknown origin got into the Pacific Ocean in the area near the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. According to information on the official website of the Kamchatka Region damage to protective structures was found at the Kozelsk toxic waste landfill, which is mentioned as possible causes.
A Greenpeace Russia team is investigating on the place of the disaster.
