Submersible Dive at 65 Latitude South in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica.- Clipreel
Dr Susanne Lockhart, from the California Academy of Sciences and John Hocevar, Greenpeace USA's Oceans Campaigns Director and submersible pilot, conduct a submersible dive at 65 latitude (65°03.624'S 055°54.300'W) South in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica.
The scientists witnessed an incredible abundance of life, including corals and other vulnerable species during what is believed to be the southernmost scientific submarine dive in history.
The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise has returned to the Antarctic Peninsula with scientists Susanne Lockhart and Rachel Downey for a series of dives with a submersible to explore the sea floor.
Greenpeace is conducting scientific research and documenting the Antarctic’s unique wildlife, to strengthen the proposal to create the largest protected area on the planet, an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary.
