Wings of Emergency Project in the Amazon in Brazil
With the Wings of Emergency (Asas da Emergência, in Portuguese) project, Greenpeace Brazil is providing emergency help to Indigenous Peoples to reduce the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19). The environmental organization is sending health professionals and equipment to areas where logistics are permanent challenges for the healthcare system. On May 26th, after several decontamination steps, including a Greenpeace ozone tunnel installed in Manaus International Airport, in the Amazonas state, health (oxygen concentrators, surgical masks and gloves and cloth masks) and hygiene (soap and hand sanitizer) supplies were transported to Itaituba, in the Pará state. After another decontamination process, the Tapajós Indigenous Health Special District (Distrito Especial de Saúde Indígena - Dsei, in Portuguese), took the supplies to the Munduruku Indigenous People, who are severely impacted by Covid-19.
