Protest for Effective Climate Protection in Coal Phase-out Law in Berlin
Greenpeace activists protest to demand effective climate protection in the coal phase-out law in Germany.
In the protest against the planned coal-exit law, 50 Greenpeace activists cover up the CDU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany) party headquarters in Berlin. They hang 3000 square meters of black fabric from the roof of the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus on the facade. On a banner there is a portrait of the Minister of Economics, Peter Altmaier, and the demand: "CDU: Dark business with the coal industry! #NoMoneyForYesterday". "Minister Altmaier has negotiated with the coal industry a billion-euro and too long operating time for their particularly climate-damaging brown coal power plants", said Karsten Smid, climate and energy expert of Greenpeace. "The present coal law mocks climate protection. It must be completely revised before it can be voted on in the Bundestag this Friday".
