Protest at the “Big Lakes of Hungary”: Lake Velence
Greenpeace Hungary activists, civilians from the Big Lakes Coalition and well-known Hungarian actresses protest at different lakes all across Hungary. Participants appeared at four different lakes: Balaton, Lake Fertő, Lake Velence and Lake Öreg. What these lakes have in common is that their natural state and local wildlife are in danger due to major touristic and leisure developments that disregard all environmental concerns. Activists, civilians and artists who participated held the sign: Azért a víz az úr! / It is the water rules - a famous line from Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, in the poem Föltámadott a tenger / The whole sea has revolted, a piece commonly associated with the power of the people.
