OOW Finds Bottom Trawlers and Flyshooter Vessels in English Channel - Clipreel (15/18 June)
Bottom trawler (Soetkin) and later Bottom trawler (Ramblers) with AIS turned off and also fly-shooter (Arpege) vessel found in English Channel.
Greenpeace UK crew investigates destructive fishing in the English Channel, aboard Greenpeace’s new boat during Operation Ocean Witness (OOW). Greenpeace found bottom trawlers with their AIS switched off and a fly-shooter vessel fishing off the coast of Brighton.
Includes drone shots of fly-shooter vessel Arpege hauling in nets, conversations with two bottom trawler vessels, Soetkin and Ramblers, about why their AIS had been turned off, and soundbite from Greenpeace UK’s Deputy Programme Director, Emily Armistead.
Greenpeace UK's Operation Ocean Witness is a six month operation, involving a new Greenpeace boat called Sea Beaver, which will patrol the UK’s protected areas off the south coast and do what the government has so far failed to do - protect the UK’s marine protected areas from destructive fishing, a key Brexit promise which has been broken. Operation Ocean Witness will operate out of Newhaven from June until Autumn 2021.
