Imam at a Mosque in Russia
An imam at the Tatarskaya Karabolka mosque remembers the victims of the 29 September 1957 Kyshtym disaster on the anniversary of the catastrophe, in which a spent nuclear fuel tank exploded at the Mayak nuclear facility. He was used as a liquidator after the 1957 disaster, preventing non residents from stopping in or lingering in the contaminated area. He is the only surviving liquidator of those from the village also charged with the same duty by the Soviet authorities.
