BP Oil Rig Protest in the North Sea - Day 1 & 2 - News Access & Soundbite
Greenpeace activists board a BP oil rig and hang Climate Emergency banner in Cromarty Firth, Scotland. The rig has been halted from leaving to head to drilling grounds. Edit has soundbite from Greenpeace activist Jo from local area. The footage is from 9th and 10th June.
The rig is the 'Paul B Loyd Jr', owned by Transocean, and on its way to the Vorlich field where it was to be drilling new oil wells, operated by BP, paying £140,000 a day for its use. BP is the operator, Transocean the owner, the same as the Deepwater Horizon.
Greenpeace is calling on BP to halt looking for new oil and invest in renewable power instead.
