Industrial Landscape in Norilsk, Russia
Norilsk is the world’s northernmost city with 150,000 inhabitants and is the second largest city (after Murmansk) inside the Arctic Circle.
It is one of the only three large cities in the continuous permafrost zone and the most polluted city in Russia. There are a lot of ecological problems (air pollution, acid rain, smog, dumping of polluted water) due to the mining and metallurgical plants owned by Norilsk Nickel.
On the 29th of May 2020, 21000 tonnes of diesel fuel from the tank N3 of Norilsk Nickel power plant spilled into the Daldikan creek in Norilsk city.
