Gazprom Protest at Barcolana Regatta in Italy - News Access
Greenpeace activists aboard inflatables hold banners reading: “Get Out Of The Arctic", "Save The Arctic" & "#FreeTheArctic30”; and follow the ‘Esimit Europa 2’ as it nears the finish of the Barcolana Regatta in Trieste, to protest against the competition’s main sponsor Gazprom. Greenpeace demands that Russian state-owned company Gazprom cease their high-risk oil exploration in the Arctic. The protesters also repeated demands for the release of the 28 Greenpeace International activists, as well as a freelance photographer and a freelance videographer, currently on remand, charged by the Russian authorities with piracy punishable for up to 15 years in prison. Greenpeace insists the charge is not valid under international law.
