1,400 Tons of Plastic Waste Dumped in Philippines Returns to Korea
1,400 tons of the misdeclared plastic waste has been returned to Pyeongtaek International Port, South Korea, in 51 shipping containers.
At the port, Mikyoung Kim, Greenpeace campaigner, said “The Environment Ministry needs to tabulate the amount of plastic consumption by each company and come up with practical targets to lower plastic use."

한국에서 필리핀으로 수출된 불법 플라스틱 쓰레기 1400톤을 실은 선박 ‘스펙트럼 N(SPECTRUM N)’ 호가 평택항에 들어오는 현장에서 환경부를 대상으로 기업의 일회용 플라스틱 소비 규제를 촉구했다. 선박은 2월 3일 오전 6시 30분경 평택컨테이너터미널에 도착했다.
그린피스의 김미경 플라스틱 캠페인 팀장은 “환경부가 플라스틱 소비량 감축 필요성에 공감한다면, 한 걸음 더 나아가 각 기업의 일회용 플라스틱 소비량을 조사하고, 소비 감축 목표, 로드맵, 생산자책임 확대 등 실효성 있는 정책과 규제를 제시해야 한다”고 강조했다.

1,400 tons of the misdeclared plastic waste has been returned to Pyeongtaek International Port, South Korea, in 51 shipping containers.
At the port, Mikyoung Kim, Greenpeace campaigner, said “The Environment Ministry needs to tabulate the amount of plastic consumption by each company and come up with practical targets to lower plastic use."
The company falsely declared the waste as recyclable “plastic synthetic flakes” in July and in October. But the waste turned out to include single-use plastics mixed with household garbage. 5100 tons of the waste still stranded in Midanao.
