GREENPEACE ANTARCTIC OCEAN SANCTUARY TOUR 2018
‘WHAT WE FOUND’ transcript
(Radio)
Deepworker is set for launch, over.
Ok roger that.
We are standing by.
Voice of John Hocevar, Greenpeace oceans campaigner and marine biologist
You start out at the surface and it’s this beautiful clear blue.
Then you start sinking down,
it gets a little bit darker and greener,
and after you get 100, 150 metres
you start to lose the surface.
Then you’re just alone, down there in this vast ocean.
As we get deeper we start to see more and more life.
Then you reach the seafloor
and you’re looking at this incredible
colourful garden, all of animals.
Most of which I’ve never seen before
some I’ve never even read about.
It’s an amazing experience.
We were able to identify very large areas
that are important habitats,
important vulnerable marine ecosystems.
These will be registered with the Commission
to create a strong foundation for these sanctuaries.
We’re counting on the Antarctic Ocean Commission
to create the largest ocean sanctuary in the world this year.
They’re going to be hearing from people
all around the planet urging them to do that.
So we hope they listen.
