Acoustic Research Conducted near the US Atlantic Coast
Josh Jones, Phd. Candidate in Biological Oceanography works with the crew of the Arctic Sunrise to deploy a HARP acoustical listening device in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. While the Arctic Sunrise traveled between Virginia and North Carolina, Greenpeace partnered with researchers from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Whale Acoustics Laboratory to deploy acoustic monitoring equipment that will help estimate sound exposure levels on marine mammals including whales and dolphins. This research will help in understanding the impact of seismic blasting and ocean noise in the Atlantic Ocean which the Trump administration wants to sell off to oil and gas companies. The Arctic Sunrise is on an Atlantic Coast Tour.
