Towing preparations begin on the bow of the Nisshin Maru. The whaling factory ship set on fire during this seasons whaling operation. Greenpeace assisted the fire-disabled ship and and escorted the entire whaling fleet out of Antarctic waters. The fire killed one sailor and disabled the ship for more than a week.
