Studying Arctic Sea Ice
Deckhand Ana Paula Alminhana Maciel, helps Cambridge University scientist John Fletcher collect ice core samples. These samples will later be used to test the core's salinity - and therefore the age of the ice floe. Known as a "Stamukha" due to its deep pressure ridges, this floe also spent time grounded off Siberia. Arctic sea ice has already disappeared by 75% in the last 30 years, and scientists together with Greenpeace are working with 3D scanning experts and engineers to capture the true shape of Arctic sea ice for the first time.
