MV Greenpeace and Russian Nuclear Waste Dumping in Japan
Crew from the MV Greenpeace protests against the dumping of radioactive waste in the Sea of Japan. Greenpeace suspected that the dump ship TNT 27 was loaded with solid waste as well as liquid radioactive waste. As a result of the vigil, Russia agreed to cancel it's second radioactive dump and the Japanese Government agreed to support the proposal for a permanent ban on waste dumping at the London Convention
