Nordica Icebreaker Action in Helsinki
Greenpeace activists are arrested by police following their action against the 'Nordica' icebreaker.
The 20 Greenpeace activists, comprising of 13 nationalities, boarded the Finnish icebreaker 'Nordica' in Helsinki harbour, unfurling a banner which read ''Stop Shell", in order to prevent the ship leaving for Shell's Arctic oil drilling project in the north of Alaska.
Shell is positioning itself to be at the head of an oil-rush into the Arctic, in expectation that climate change will continue to drive up the average Arctic summer ice melt, and so make drilling in the region easier. Oil spills are virtually impossible to clean up in Arctic conditions.
