June 2016, Rhine, Germany: On board Greenpeace ship Beluga II is a special device to take samples and test micro plastic during the tour on the rivers Rhine, Main and Danube. Micro plastic is hardly visible but nonetheless a huge problem. Plastic waste is ground to tiny particles in the sea via UV radiation and waves. And there is already plastic waste in our waste water that is too small to be filtered out. Microscopic microbeads are e.g. in toothpaste and peelings and often get into the sea via sewage systems.

Juni 2016, river Rhein, Deutschland: An Bord des Greenpeace-Schiffs Beluga II ist eine spezielle Vorrichtung, um während der Tour unter anderem Rhein, Main und Donau auf Mikroplastik zu testen. Mikroplastik ist zwar kaum sichtbar, aber nichtsdestotrotz ein riesiges Problem. Im Meer wird Plastikmüll durch UV-Strahlung und Wellengang zu winzigen Partikeln zerrieben, aber bereits in unserem Abwasser befindet sich Plastikabfall, der zu klein ist, um herausgefiltert zu werden. Mikroskopisch kleine Kunststoffteilchen befinden sich beispielsweise in Zahncreme und Peelings und gelangen häufig über Abflüsse ins Meer.
